Woman, 21, Nearly Raped On Midtown Sidewalk, Police Say

The suspect is still on the loose, police said.

MIDTOWN, NY — Police were looking Tuesday for a man who attempted to rape a woman in Midtown, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the 21-year-old woman was walking near 47th Street and Eighth Avenue at 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 10 when the man approached her and tried to sexually assault her.

According to reporting by Pix11, the man wrapped his arm around the woman's neck, and she briefly lost consciousness, which is when he tried to rape the victim. When the woman regained consciousness, she escaped the perpetrator, Pix11 reported.

Then, the man ran away on 47th Street toward Ninth Avenue, and medics took the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan in stable condition, police said.

Police have not made any arrests yet, and are working to identify the suspect. Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect, who was last seen wearing black t-shirt, black shorts, and white sneakers.
