HELL'S KITCHEN, NY — Two men who attacked an on-duty NYPD captain in Hell's Kitchen this month have been arrested, NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea announced Thursday.

The duo is accused of approaching NYPD Captain Stephen Spataro while he was investigating near West 41st Street and 10th Avenue on the night of Oct. 10 and attempting to rob the officer, police said. One of the men acted as if he was carrying a gun and the other punched Spataro in the head, police said.

Spataro, who was wearing plain clothes at the time of the attack, pulled his service weapon during the assault, police said. The action caused the two robbers to flee the scene, said police.
