Metro North Offers Free Ebooks To Grand Central Commuters

You can now download some entertainment for your commute thanks to Penguin Random House and the MTA.

MIDTOWN, NY – The Metro North is getting some free ebook excerpts, readable of the transit line's newly revamped free wifi service.

The MTA is pairing up with Penguin Random House to begin a project called “Grand Central Reads,” which will provide Metro North riders with free ebooks to enjoy on their trip.

Commuters can download the excerpts from inside Grand Central, at the train platforms and from the Park Avenue tunnel.

The books will be by New York City authors, about New York City, or feature stories that take place in Grand Central.

Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi believes the project will develop a sense of community. “We’re excited to give people an opportunity to ignite their passion for reading, connect with each other, and experience the heart of New York City in new ways,” she said.

If you read an excerpt and like it enough, full-length ebooks are also available for direct purchase and mobile download.

The excerpts will only available through August 31st.

In 2016, the MTA introduced a similar initiative for about the same time span, providing ebooks to metro commuters for an eight-week period.
