Midtown F Train Station Closes For Months-Long Repairs

The 57th Street F train station on Sixth Avenue closed Monday for repairs. It is expected to reopen in December.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Midtown Manhattan F train station closed Monday for a five-month repair project.

The 57th Street F station, located on Sixth Avenue between West 57th and 56th streets, was shuttered Monday as the MTA begins work to fix "structural defects and deterioration" at the station, according to the transit agency. The station is also due for "functional station improvements" such as digital signage with real-time information, countdown clocks and brighter, energy-efficient lighting.

The station is expected to reopen in December, according to an MTA announcement.

"We have had great success with these projects in terms of how much work can be done a short span of time when construction crews have total round-the-clock access," said NYC Transit President Andy Byford said in a statement when announcing the station closure. "We thank customers for their patience as we make these repairs and improvements, which will bring practical benefits to our customers for many decades on."

The 57th Street station closure is one of three stations that will close for repairs in July. The other two stations — the 28th Street 6 station and the 23rd Street F/M station — are located in Chelsea and will close later in July.
