Garbage Truck Catches Fire In Midtown: Reports, Officials

Firefighters are on scene battling the fire. The source of the fire is currently unknown.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The FDNY is battling a garbage truck fire on West 45th Street and Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, according to reports and fire officials.

The fire broke out around 4:09 p.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene by 4:14, an FDNY spokesman said. An FDNY spokesman could not confirm the source of the fire, but NBC4's Ken Buffa reported that a garbage truck erupted in flames.

Heavy plumes of smoke and a large emergency response were spotted on Fifth Avenue, according to witnesses posting to social media.

No injuries were reported during the fire, an FDNY spokesman said.
