Midtown's Redeye Grill Reopens After 2018 Fire

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A Midtown dining staple for more than two-decades that caters to the Carnegie Hall crowd has reopened after a year-long renovation following a kitchen fire.

Redeye Grill, located on Seventh Avenue and West 56th Street, opened its doors last week for the first time since April 2018, business owners said. The restaurant underwent a full renovation following a fire and now features a "restaurant within a restaurant" concept called 888 Cafe & Bar.

"We had a small kitchen fire in April 2018. Instead of just fixing the kitchen, we decided to do a fun redesign of the whole space," owner Shelly Fireman said in a statement. "It’s still the classic Redeye that we all know and love, just a few more elements thrown in. And the place is so big I just thought, hey, why not put two restaurants inside of one."

With the addition of 888 Cafe & Bar, the business is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner service, Fireman said in a statement. The new bistro seats 80 diners and shares the wrap around bar and cocktail menu with Redeye Grill. The menu at 888 Cafe & Bar features seafood, sandwiches, salads and "refined comfort food" served all day.

Redeye Grill favorites such as "dancing shrimp," sushi burger, lobster cobb salad and banana cream pie will be complemented by new offerings including a raw bar and sushi platters. The restaurant's unique decor and artwork were preserved during the fire and renovation, business owners said. The restaurant seats up to 200 diners.

• Lunch: Monday to Friday 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.
• Dinner: Monday to Friday 5-11 p.m., Saturday 5 p.m.-12 a.m., Sunday 5-11 p.m.
• Brunch: Saturday to Sunday 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

888 Cafe Bar & Grill

• Lunch: Monday to Friday 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Dinner: Sunday to Thursday 5-11 pm., Friday to Saturday 5 p.m.-12 a.m.
• Brunch: Saturday to Sunday 11:30 a.m.-5: p.m.
• Breakfast: Coming Soon
