Midtown's Secret Junkfood Gems, in Honor of #NationalJunkFoodDay

The places you wouldn't necessarily consider to get a disgusting, fattening, incredible snack.

Thursday is National Junk Food Day, which gives you a free pass to eat all the junk you ever wanted but i the past have passed up for a Chop't Salad. Get your fries, pizza, fried chicken, chocolate, and ice cream on in between meetings. You only live once, and although these snacks might shorten that life a few days, it's totally worth the taste of grease seeping into your tongue. Do it for the national holiday.

You might go straight to Shake Shack for a burger and fries, which is a very respectable choice. But we've compiled a list of smaller, less thought-about gems that might more specifically satisfy your cravings.

Fried Chicken

Bonchon, 207 W. 38th Street, between Seventh and Eight avenues. This is the spot for all your fried chicken needs. Yelper Colleen B. said it best when she said: Seriously, if my mom's homemade fried chicken got in bed with tempura, they would make Bonchon babies!" Wings, drumsticks, popcorn chicken, they've got all the chickens!

In this kid's words:

Donuts

Penn Station's Krispy Kreme is the only Krispy Kreme location left in the New York City, so grab the soft, glazed pieces of heaven while you can. It's kind of the only thing left that's good about Penn Station.

Popcorn

Chicago's Garrett's popcorn is the only thing you need to alleviate that sugar crash after a long day at work. They have impeccable caramel corn, salty cheesy corn, creamy buttery corn, and a combination of all of the above. Get a large tin back with you if you're feeling feisty and know you'll be Netflixing later.

Pizza

Midtown's best kept secret (well, not really anymore, thanks to pizza tours and rave reviews) is New York Pizza Suprema at 413 8th Avenue between 29th and 30th streets. The cheese they use is like crack. They've got lots of different kinds of slices, but do yourself a favor and try at least one slice of the classic cheese. It's love at first slice, but also the kind of slice you could see yourself settling down with for the rest of your life.

Cookies

Culture Espresso at 72 W. 38th Street between 5th and 6th avenues has, hands down, the best chocolate chip cookie in the city. They bake them in-house all day, their website says. They're clumpy, lumpy, mountainous, doughy, and all the best things one needs in a baked good. And they're always warm!
