MIDTOWN, NY — A new Italian-American is bringing a bevy of traditional dishes to Midtown inside of a recently opened luxury European hotel.

At Allora Ristororante, inside Le Méridien at Fifth Avenue and 31st Street, one of their signature dishes is based on a 600-year-old six-foot-long piece of pasta.

The rustic Abruzzese recipe Maccheroni alla Mugnaia (Miller’s Wife Pasta) includes a two-yard long noodle that is then tossed in a ragu with teeny meatballs, dried chilies, Parmigiano Reggiano and peperoncino.

That's only one of the signature dishes served up by Chef-owner Elio Albanese steeped in history.

Another dish, Corzetti in a traditional walnut sauce, is based on a medieval-era practice where pasta makers would make circular bits of dough by imprinting coins, leading nobles to eventually take advantage of the trend to turn dinner into a branding opportunity by developing elaborate stamps emblazoned with their coats of arms, patterns and designs.

The dish further embraces its Liguraian roots with a traditional walnut sauce, reads an announcement from the restaurant.

All dishes are well-paired with a robust drink menu, including the specialty aperitivo, Milano Modena — a combo of Emilia-Romagna’s Lambrusco with Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, which the restaurant promises will satisfy all spritz connoisseurs.

For breakfast, Allora will serve up Pannettone french toast and sweet-cream filled buns called maritozzi.
