Pedestrian Critically Injured In Hell's Kitchen Hit-And-Run: Police

A pedestrian remains in critical condition after he was hit by a car while crossing 8th Avenue early on Monday morning, police said.

HELL’S KITCHEN, NY – A pedestrian is in critical condition after an apparent hit-and-run in Hell’s Kitchen on Monday morning, police said.

A 30-year-old male pedestrian was crossing 8th Avenue at W. 49th Street when he was struck by a dark-colored sedan traveling northbound on 8th Avenue, police said.

Police responded to the scene at 2:45 a.m. on Monday morning. EMS transported the man to Bellevue Hospital, where he remains in critical condition as of this time, police said.

It appears that the sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red light, police said, and that the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when he was struck.

According to police, the man is not homeless.

As of right now, there is no additional information on the driver, police said.

There are no arrests, and an investigation is ongoing. The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad is handling the incident.

“They have a lot of cameras in Midtown North,” a spokesperson told Patch, referencing the police precinct in which the incident occurred.
