Pedestrian Hit, Critically Injured By Truck In Midtown, NYPD Says

The pedestrian was struck around 7:40 a.m. in the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 58th Street.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A pedestrian was critically injured Monday morning after being hit by a box truck in Midtown Manhattan, police and fire officials said.

A 58-year-old man was crossing Sixth Avenue at West 58th Street at about 7:40 a.m. when he was hit by a truck driving up Fifth Avenue, an NYPD spokesman said. EMS rushed the pedestrian, who was not identified, to NewYork-Presbyterian hospital in critical condition, an FDNY spokesman said.

The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is still conducting its investigation, but no criminality is suspected, a department spokesman said. The spokesman said that no charges have been brought against the truck driver.

Thirty-nine people have been injured in traffic collisions in the intersection of Sixth Avenue and West 58th Street since 2009, according to city Vision Zero data.
