MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — With New Yorkers shut inside their homes due to the city's massive outbreak of the new coronavirus, Rockefeller Center is organizing a virtual chorus to bring people together through song.

The Midtown Manhattan venue is inviting New Yorkers of all talent levels to join its group Rockefeller Center Sings. The group will meet over video conference to practice for an eventual free concert when social distancing measures are lifted.

"Songs reflect the heritage of Rockefeller Center, will celebrate the diversity and energy of New York City, and will provide connection in this time of isolation. We will be working towards a free performance at Rockefeller Plaza when social-distancing is no longer in place and we’re able to come together again," a Rockefeller Center statement reads.

Choir members do not need previous singing experience to join Rockefeller Center Sings. The group will hold workshops and practices and asks that its members only be " willing to join in and connect with their voice, mind, body and breath to experience the power of group singing."

Singers can sign up for the group by sending an email to rockefellersings@gmail.com with their name and voice part. The group held it's first rehearsal on April 16.
