MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — Looking for something to do with your leftover Halloween pumpkins?

At Hudson River Park's annual Pumpkin Smash, New Yorkers can smash and bash their pumpkins into small pieces that Park staff will turn into compost.

The Pumpkin Smash will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Pier 84 (near W 44th St. and Twelfth Ave), and households of up to five can register for free here.

Each group will be given 15 minutes to smash up their pumpkins, and individuals can have their choice of a bat, hammer, or "even the top of a truck" to beat up their pumpkins, officials said.

In addition to pumpkins, groups are asked to bring their own safety goggles and face shields (if they have them).

During last year's Pumpkin Smash, Hudson River Park collected 1,000 pounds of pumpkin that were turned into compost through the Park's community composting program, officials said.

"Hudson River Park's annual Pumpkin Smash event perfectly combines two aspects of Hudson River Park’s mission: environmental stewardship and fun," Noreen Doyle, President and CEO of Hudson River Park, said. "By encouraging our community to smash, bash and crash their leftover pumpkins into compost, we can all play an active role in working towards a greener future."
