Suspect In Brutal Times Square Assault Identified, Police Say

The suspect blindsided a man on the Times Square subway platform with a seemingly random attack.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD has identified a man wanted in connection with a brutal beating that occurred on a Times Square subway platform.

Joe Hasing, 24, is accused of attacking a 22-year-old man on in the Midtown subway station on the night of Feb. 27, police said. The victim was standing on the subway platform when Hasing approached him from behind and attacked him, police said.

During the seemingly random attack, the man was punched several times, thrown to the ground and then kicked while on the platform floor, police said. The victim suffered bruising and swelling to his face and two chipped teeth, police said.

Hasing was seen calmly walking away from the man's crumpled body while wearing an overcoat and tie, according to security camera footage of the assault. Hasing is described as standing 6-feet-tall and weighing about 240 pounds, police said.

Hasing's motive for attacking the victim is currently unknown, police said.
