Suspect Charged in Gang-Related Shooting At Mexican Day Parade In Midtown
The incident happened near Park Avenue and East 27th Street.
MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN — A 35-year-old man has been arrested and charged after injuring a 17-year-old girl in a shooting along the Mexican Independence Day parade route in Midtown, police announced.
Joel Nieves of the Bronx has been charged with attempted murder, assault and weapons possession in connection with the shooting on Sunday that left the girl with a gunshot wound to the left shoulder in the area of Park Avenue and East 27th Street, police said.
The shooting was reportedly gang-related and happened a minute after a 24-year-old man was stabbed on 28th Street and Madison Avenue, police said.

According to police, the two incidents are connected with Nieves and a teen suspect part of a group that became violent after the parade concluded in the area.
A 14-year-old suspect has been charged with gang assault in the stabbing.
