Suspicious Suitcase At Macy's Found To Contain Just Clothes

Police closed down a stretch of Seventh Avenue after a suspicious package was reported at the department store, the NYPD said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD's Bomb Squad cleared a suspicious suitcase at the Macy's flagship store in Midtown after it was found to only contain clothes, police officials said.

The bag's presence at the 151 W. 34th St. store was reported to cops at 11 a.m., prompting a response from the Emergency Services Unit and Bomb Squad, the NYPD said.

The investigation found the suitcase contained just clothes and wasn't dangerous, a police spokesman said.

Police closed a stretch of Seventh Avenue as cops investigated. The NYPD warned of residual traffic delays around 34th Street and Sixth Avenue.

A video posted to Twitter showed an empty 34th Street cleared of cars around Herald Square. Zach Gotlib tweeted that the store had been evacuated.

"Following an investigation of a suspicious package near the Broadway entrance to Macy’s Herald Square, NYPD cleared Macy’s to reopen that entrance," Macy's spokeswoman Julie Strider said in a statement.
