Taxi Bursts Into Flames On Midtown Street, FDNY Says
A massive fire destroyed a city taxi on Second Avenue and East 46th Street Tuesday morning, officials said.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The burned-out shell of a taxi was left on a Midtown Manhattan street after the vehicle was engulfed by flames during a dramatic Tuesday morning fire.
The SUV taxi burst into flames shortly before 10:30 a.m. on Second Avenue near East 46th Street, an FDNY spokesman said. Firefighters rushed to the scene and had the fire under control before 11 a.m., the spokesman said.
Nobody was injured during the fire, fire officials said. The cause of the fire remains a mystery, as the fire marshal "does not investigate car fires," an FDNY spokesman said.

Damage to the taxi was severe, according to photos taken by witnesses. The vehicle's distinct yellow hue was covered in ash and soot, its windows were burned out and portions of the car's front bumper appeared to be missing.
