Trump's Plaza Cameo Cut From 'Home Alone' Broadcast
The president's supporters interpreted the editing out of a five-second scene as a sign of media bias against the president.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — President Donald Trump has harsh words for a Canadian broadcast of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" that cut out a brief cameo where Trump meets the film's protagonist in Midtown Manhattan's Plaza Hotel.
"The movie will never be the same! (just kidding)" the President, who seems to be enjoying a relaxing Christmas break, tweeted on Thursday.
The jab was made following an accusation that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ordered the scene to be cut from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's broadcast of the popular holiday film. Network officials told CNN that the scene, and several other scenes not "integral to the plot," were cut to condense the movie for a TV broadcast in 2014. Justin Trudeau's tenure as Prime Minister began in 2015.

In the scene, a lost Kevin Mcallister asks Trump for directions to The Plaza's main lobby. Trump says "down the hall, and to the left," and then walks out of frame. The whole scene lasts about 30 seconds, most of which is focused on Macaulay Culkin's protagonist and shots of The Plaza's glitzy decorations.

Trump supporters interpreted the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's decision to edit out the scene as an example of media bias against the president. Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., went so far as to call the cut cameo "absolutely pathetic" in a 150-word Instagram rant.

"Imagine being so “triggered” that you can’t even leave a Christmas movie alone without editing. This is what we are up against in 2020, this is the filter by which most people receive their news," Trump Jr. wrote.
