VIDEO: Man Clinging To Midtown Traffic Light Rescued By Cops
NYPD's elite emergency services unit pulled down a man clutching a traffic light over a busy midtown intersection Wednesday afternoon.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — A man brought Midtown traffic to a standstill Wednesday when he perched atop a traffic light hanging above a busy intersection, according to police.
The man wedged his body into a traffic signal at West 36th Street and Sixth Avenue about 2 p.m. Wednesday, an NYPD spokesman said.
Police officers closed down the intersection, leaving vehicles stuck in traffic for blocks in each direction, while the elite Emergency Services Unit responded to the scene.

Once the ESU arrived, officers positioned a truck underneath the signal and climbed on top of the vehicle to grab the man from his perch, according to video of the incident posted to social media Thursday.

Video shows the man clinging to the light with his legs as two police officers haul him down by the back and place him in handcuffs on the roof of the truck.
Naturally, New Yorkers congregated on the street to whip out their smart phones and document the rescue, according to the video.
The man, whom police said was emotionally disturbed, was not hit with any criminal charges and was brought to a nearby hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, an NYPD spokesman said.
