Violent Robbers Attack Commuter At East Side Subway Station, Police Say

MIDTOWN EAST, NY — Police were looking on Wednesday for two men who violently robbed a commuter in the Lexington Avenue-59 Street subway station, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, the incident happened back on July 8 at 3:40 p.m. on the northbound R train platform.

First, the two perpetrators pushed the 21-year-old man to the ground from behind, officials said. Then, the perpetrators kicked and punched the victim before forcibly removing the victim's iPhone 16, police said.

Then, both robbers ran away, and the victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, police said.

Police said no arrests have been made yet, but that the investigation is underway. Police released surveillance photos of one of the suspects, who exited through the turnstile. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and green sneakers, police said.
