Woman Groped In Midtown Subway Station, Police Say

The woman told police that a man reached between her legs while she walked up a staircase at the West 40th Street and Eighth Avenue station.

MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted for groping a woman inside a Midtown Manhattan subway station, police said.

A 28-year-old woman told police that the man followed her up a staircase at the West 40th Street and Eighth Avenue on the night of Feb. 14. While the woman walked up the stairs, the man reached up from behind and touched her between the legs, police said.

The man then fled the scene by running back down into the subway station, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his 40s or 50s who stands 5-foot-8 and weighs about 170 pounds. The man (pictured above) was last seen wearing a gray knit cap, a black jacket, blue jeans and tan boots.
