Woman Killed In Fatal Kips Bay Fire: FDNY, Report

An apartment fire took the life of a woman early Friday morning, according to reports.

MIDTOWN, NY — A woman died when flames erupted in a Kips Bay apartment early Friday morning, according to the FDNY and reports.

The fire broke out on the second floor of a five-story apartment building on East 31st Street near Park Avenue South at about 12:30 a.m., according to the FDNY. The fire was under control by 1 a.m., the FDNY said, with 60 fire and EMS personnel responding.

A woman died at the scene from what appears to have been smoke inhalation, according to the Daily News. FDNY officials confirmed that one person was found dead at the scene.

Officials told the Daily News that the death did not appear to be suspicious.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by fire marshals, according to the department.
