MIDTOWN, NY — A terrifying scene unfolded Friday morning when a window-washing platform with two workers on it began swinging and smacking into the apartment building at 25 Columbus Circle, dangling the workers 78 floors above the busy traffic circle, New York City Fire Department officials said.

According to the FDNY's Deputy Chief Michael Trahan, the rescue team got the call at 9:47 a.m. on Friday, and when they arrived, they found broken glass raining down all over the sidewalk and the scaffolding was unattached to the building, swinging around in the wind.

"When they got up onto the 78th floor, they saw the window was blown out, glass everywhere," Strahan said.

The rescue team acted quickly, securing the scaffolding and the two people with ropes, authorities said.

"Shortly after that, they were able to bring [the workers] into the building safely, and they were treated by EMS and transported to Cornell," Strahan said.
