Business Owner Fined For Dumping Carpet At Rocky Point Apartment Complex: DEC

He admitted to putting the carpets in dumpsters, saying he was trying to clean out his warehouse but the dump was closed, DEC says.

ROCKY POINT, NY — Two people were caught dumping several pickup truck loads of carpet at an apartment complex in Rocky Point on Sept. 24, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said Wednesday.

An officer was given video and photos showing the vehicles' and license plate information and later found the vehicles at the truck owner’s local business, according to the agency.

The owner admitted to illegally dumping the carpets in dumpsters at the apartment complex, saying he was trying to clean out his warehouse on a Sunday when the dump was closed, the agency said.

An officer issued the owner an administrative ticket as part of an Order on Consent, which requires them to pay to empty the dumpster, as well as an additional penalty of $750.
