LI School Bus Driver Feted For 'Extraordinary Skill' In Avoiding Crash On Snowy Roadway

LONG ISLAND, NY — A Long Island school bus driver who reportedly navigated a school bus down a hill as it slid in snowy conditions, stopping it from crashing, was feted by school officials recently.

Superintendent of Schools Scott O’Brien and Board of Education President Jessica Ward presented Theresa Fogal with a certificate of appreciation at a recent school board meeting for the "extraordinary skill and composure" that was captured on camera by a resident and has since been admired by many, school district officials said in a news release.

Fogal, who drives a bus for both the district and First Student, said “First Student is a great company, and I was trained by the best!”

O'Brien described her actions are" a powerful reminder of the responsibility and care our transportation staff carry every single day."

“In the face of inclement weather, she ensured that her students remained safe, calm, and cared for — a feat that deserves all our admiration and gratitude," he said.
