  1. Most Long Island school districts returned to in-person learning on Monday after holiday breaks, but a few moved to remote learning. Freeport, Westbury, Hicksville and Wyandanch districts went remote on Monday, and Long Beach and Baldwin chose some schools to switch to virtual learning, as omicron continues to surge. A man, whose name has not yet been released, driving a 2005 Toyota Camry in Central Islip was killed Sunday morning after his vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a car on West Suffolk Avenue. The car he hit was driven by Fernando Cordero, 24, of Brentwood, who is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. (Subscription: Newsday)
  3. A new ice cream shop, Mickey's Ice Cream Kitchen, opened in St. James for walk-up service at 370 Lake Ave. last month. The shop has seasonal and winter flavors like peppermint bark. (Greater Long Island)

  • Sound Beach is now considered a COVID-19 hot spot. A new community testing site opens today at Cathedral Pines Park, 116 Yaphank-Middle Island Road in Middle Island, on Tuesdays and Fridays only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site will be drive-thru and first-come, first served. (Facebook)
  • The FDA has approved booster shots for teenagers ages 12-18. The FDA expanded eligibility of Pfizer COVID-19 boosters this week. (News 12)
  • Rocky Point High School will have a college information night, this Thursday at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. (Rocky Point UFSD)
