Six-year-old Lilah Lindemann, from Miller Place was the winner in a local essay contest on savings that netted her $100 gift card from American Express
The contest, held by Astoria Federal Savings, asked participants to complete the statement, “If I save a lot today, in the future I could…”
Over 550 children entered and Lindemann,who attends Andrew Muller Primary School, was one of three who placed second in the contest.

"We were very impressed with the essays we received, and enjoyed reading about their detailed plans," said Brian Edwards, executive vice president and managing director of the Retail Banking Group at Astoria. "This contest is a great, fun way for children in our communities to start thinking about saving money to reach their goals"
