Whiz Kid: Miller Place Teen Earns Top Grades, Launches Music Label

This teen is tops, earning high marks and volunteering his time.

Name: Mert Teniozo - Age 14

School: 
Miller Place High School - entering the 10th grade

Accomplishments: 
High honor roll student, plays alto sax and received a perfect score in the New York State Music Festival, started own music label.

A high honor roll student taking honors and A.P. classes, Teniozo plays the alto saxophone in the Jazz Ensemble.  He has participated in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) festival, receiving a perfect score at the 2013 competition.  He is a member of the high school's Service Club as well as Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  Teniozo received first place in the FBLA district's competition for "Intro to Business" as well as first place in the Long Island Business Teachers Association (LIBTA) All-Long Island Competition for "Career and Financial Management".

The star student also plays on his high school's Junior Varsity football team as a wide receiver and cornerback, as well as on the Varsity track team as a 200 meter and 400 meter sprinter.  He plays baseball with the Long Island Mudcats travel team as a first baseman as well as all outfield positions.

Along with his brother, Teniozo started a new music label, Sweetgum Heights, in which they record aspiring artists. He contributes his talents as a songwriter, saxophonist and audio engineer.  

Teniozo volunteers his time singing in the choir at St. Louis de Montfort Church and participates in the North Shore LIJ Strides Against Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.  He has his sights set on a career in the financial sector of the business world.
