All that Duke Ellington Jazz

The Paul Joseph Quartet plays to an enthusiastic crowd at Mineola Library.

You weren’t hearing things.

That was the sounds of “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “Take The ‘A’ Train” and “Prelude to a Kiss” coming from the last Saturday.

The Paul Joseph Quartet performed these and other signature Duke Ellington tunes to a packed room.

An Oceanside composer, Joseph led his band on the piano, while bass player Edgar Mills and drummer Mike Corn kept the rhythm, allowing Susan Mitchell to chime in during each tune with the sweet sounds of her violin.

The Paul Joseph Quartet performs their instrumental renditions of jazz classics throughout the Long Island and New York City region. The band’s series of programs include Jerome Kern, Richard Rogers and Cole Porter jazz and George Gershwin classics. The quartet’s next stop is at the Wantagh Library at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26.
