County Legislature Votes To Ban Trans Women From Competing In Sports
"This is a hateful and blatantly illegal bill. If signed into law, we'll see Nassau in court— again," the NYCLU tweeted.
MINEOLA, NY — The Nassau County Legislature passed the bill late Monday afternoon that bans transgender female athletes from competing in women's sports at county facilities.
The legislation passed along party lines, 12-5, as the Republican majority lifted it to passage.
Democratic legislators, Siela Bynoe and Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton were absent from the vote.

"I am gratified that the Republican Majority in the legislature voted in favor of this common-sense measure to protect the integrity of women's sports and the safety of women participants," County Executive Bruce Blakeman said.
The New York City Liberties Union wrote on X after the vote: "This is a hateful and blatantly illegal bill. If signed into law, we'll see Nassau in court— again."

The ban was first issued as an executive order by Blakeman in February. However, a judge ruled in May struck down Blakeman's order saying he "acted beyond the scope of his authority as the Chief Executive Officer of Nassau."
David Kilmnick, president of the LGBT Network, has been a staunch opponent of the ban, saying that the executive order was "nothing more than a pure political stunt."
