DA: New Cassel Man Sentenced to 35 Years to Life in Fatal Shooting

The shooting occurred after an argument, the district attorney said.

A New Cassel man was sentenced to 35 years to life in prison Thursday for fatally shooting a man after an argument, authorities said.

On Dec. 1, Naqunne Jackson was found guilty of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.

Officials say Jackson had shot William Moody, 31, also of New Cassel, two times after an argument on Prospect Avenue in New Cassel on Sept. 22, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. Moody was later found dead from his injuries near the scene of the shooting on State Street.

“This sentence will ensure that this defendant will be held accountable for taking the life of a young man and will not be a threat to the public for a very long time,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said, in a statement.

Jackson plans to file an appeal, his attorney Chris Devane, told Newsday.
