Island Harvest Holds 17th Annual Golf Classic
Event raises over $190,000 to benefit Mineola-based non-profit.
Mineola-based food bank Island Harvest held its 17th Annual Golf Classic on Thursday afternoon at The Creek golf course in Locust Valley. Though it rained most of the day, the event was able to raise over $190,000 to benefit Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization.
The event honored Marc Tell, president of the Sam Tell Companies, a Farmingdale, NY-based food service equipment and supplies distributor. Tell, a Woodbury resident, helped to the firm founded by his grandfather into one of the country’s largest suppliers to the food service industry. Recognized for his philanthropic activities, he was honored in 2000 by the UJA Federation as its Man of the Year for his philanthropic activities. Tell also serves on a number of industry-related advisory boards and was named to Island Harvest's board of directors in 2009.
