Since then, Mega Millions sales in New York alone have totaled $184.5 million. The game is played in 44 states. Hourly sales approaching $3 million or more were expected in New York in the final hours leading up to Tuesday night's drawing, the New York Lottery said.
“The world is watching us and the other 45 lottery jurisdictions offering the Mega Millions product,” said Ronald Ochrym, New York Gaming Commission's acting executive director. “This is a chance to shine a spotlight on the pride New York takes in its lottery and all the good our lottery does for our schools, small business owners and of course, our players.”

Four people who bought Mega Millions tickets in New York for last Friday night's drawing won the $1 million second-prize.
The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350. To put that in perspective, your odds of being struck by lightning are 302 times higher than winning the jackpot. The overall chances of winning any prize are 1 in 24. Despite those astronomical odds, there was a good chance that someone finally won the jackpot Tuesday night.
Lottery officials say they expected about 75 percent of all the number combinations to have been purchased by the time the winning numbers were drawn, USA Today reported.
