Mineola Man Gets 20 To Life For Beating Man To Death
He brutally beat and killed a man sleeping in a Hempstead park in 2016, the DA says.

A Mineola man was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison on Thursday for beating a man to death at a Hempstead park in 2016, according to Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas.
Marvin Yanez, 43, was convicted in September of second-degree murder, second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
On Oct. 18, 2016, Yanez and the victim, 31-year-old Luis Estrada, were fighting near the Laundry Palace on Clinton Avenue in Hempstead when Yanez grabbed a hammer from his pickup trick and attacked Estrada in the arm at around 7:30 p.m., the DA says. Yanez reportedly told Estrada that “this war isn’t over, you started this war and I’m going to finish it.”

Yanez went to Brierley Park in Hempstead where Estrada was sleeping and beat him in the head with an unknown object at 11 p.m., the DA says. A friend of Estrada was looking for him at around 11:45 p.m. and found him bleeding from blunt force trauma injuries to his head. He later died from his injuries.
“Just hours after attacking Luis Estrada with a hammer, Marvin Yanez returned to brutally beat and kill the victim in a Hempstead park,” Singas said in a press release. “Thanks to good detective work and our prosecutors this case was solved and the family of Mr. Estrada now has some justice.”
