Mineola Under Winter Weather Advisory as Back-to-Back Storms Take Aim

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday afternoon.

By Ryan Bonner

If you hate winter weather (and your boss won’t mind), you may want to hop into bed right now and set your alarm clock for Friday morning because the next 48 hours or so are going to be a mess.

A winter weather advisory went into effect for all of Long Island at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Snow is expected to begin late in the afternoon and then mix with sleet and freezing rain in the evening. The precipitation will change to freezing rain by midnight and then to plain rain overnight, the NWS said in the winter weather advisory, which expires at 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The weather advisory says 1-3 inches of snow may fall by the end of Tuesday on Long Island. The latest NWS snowfall total projections map for the island, however, has nudged those estimates down to 1-2 inches. A few-hundredths to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation is also possible. The East End is expected to be on the lower end of the snow and ice accumulations.

“Snow covered surfaces coated with ice will make traveling difficult at times,” the NWS said.
