Nassau Police Partner With Target In Shopping Spree For Children

Fifty children will be treated to a $100 shopping trip complete with costumed superheroes to buy holiday gifts for their families.

The Nassau Police Foundation will host "Heroes and Helpers” in which 50 children from the Westbury School District will be paired with police officers to help them on a $100-holiday shopping spree at the nearby Target on Tuesday.

WESTBURY, NY — The Nassau Police Foundation will host "Heroes and Helpers” in which 50 children from the Westbury School District will be paired with police officers to help them on a $100-holiday shopping spree at the nearby Target on Tuesday, according to a news release.

The foundation and Target are donating $100 per student, who have been identified by the school district to take part, Nassau police said.

The children and a guidance counselor from each school will be taken in department vehicles to Target in Westbury by officers.

A welcoming celebration with the department's "Leo the Lion" mascot and officers dressed as superheroes will kick off at 10 a.m. followed by refreshments and shopping.

The Heroes and Helpers program helps foster strong community relationships, as children from the Westbury area will shop for holiday gifts for their families with officers from Community Affairs, Police Athletic League, Homeland Security, Community Oriented Police Enforcement, Problem Oriented Police units, and "Superheroes" in costume.

After the event, the students will then be returned to their respective schools by officers.
