New York Philharmonic Comes to Tilles Center in March
When the orchestra is in town, its members engage with young musicians and music lovers of all ages.

Audience members attending The New York Philharmonic concert at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts Saturday wonβt be the only ones in the area enjoying the orchestra this month.
Thatβs because the musicians are engaging with people of all ages in the community, with programing for the very young, student-musicians and people who simply enjoy a live classical music performance.
This year, new programming is in-store for children.

The Very Young Peopleβs Concerts feature games and hands-on music making. The March 29 program is geared for ages 3-6, while the March 30 concert is for those in grades Pre-Kβ2.
Stickley said Tilles has long enjoyed a relationship with the Philharmonic.
βWe have been presenting the New York Philharmonic since 1981 β they were our first performers β and we have a long history of master classes and workshops for LIU students and area high school students as well,β she noted.
In March, members of the New York Philharmonic are coaching not only the LIU Post Orchestra but also the Long Island Youth Orchestra.
And those attending Saturdayβs concert can, for an additional $5, also attend a pre-concert discussion lead by Mark Shapiro, DMA, an associate professor of music at LIU Post, to deepen their understanding of the works.
Saturdayβs program, conducted by Alan Gilbert, includes Salonenβs Nyx, Ravelβs βPiano Concerto in G Major,β Debussyβs βJeux: PoΓ¨me dansΓ©β and Straussβ βDer Rosenkavalier Suite.β
