Authorities say surveillance video, physical evidence, and an autopsy underpin the Nassau County homicide case, with the defendant held without bail ahead of a February court date in Mineola.
   

• Hempstead gunman headed to prison after guilty plea (shorenewsnetwork.com) — Nassau County prosecutors in Mineola say a Hempstead man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a 2024 parking lot shooting after a late-night card game turned deadly. He faces a 25-year prison sentence at his March 16 hearing, following his arrest in Detroit and extradition back to the county.
   

• PSEG Foundation awards $100K to Island Harvest in $1.5M hunger-relief initiative (liherald.com) — Mineola’s role as Nassau County’s headquarters was highlighted at a 2024 event where Island Harvest detailed helping over 100,000 county residents facing hunger. Now, a new $100,000 PSEG Foundation grant will bolster the food bank’s year-round efforts to feed Long Islanders struggling to afford groceries.
