• 'Torso killer' Richard Cottingham admits to another killing 60 years ago (newsday.com) — Mineola readers are tied to this case through victim Mary Beth Heinz, a 21-year-old from the village whom serial killer Richard Cottingham admitted killing decades ago. Authorities say Cottingham, already serving multiple life sentences, has now confessed to a 1965 New Jersey murder, while Nassau cases — including victims from Mineola and nearby communities — remain part of his long trail of admitted crimes.
