Person Fatally Struck By LIRR Train Near Mineola Station: MTA
A person was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train Tuesday evening, officials said.

MINEOLA, NY — A person was fatally struck by a train Tuesday evening near the Mineola station on Long Island Rail Road's Main Line.
The incident happened around 10:54 p.m., just east of the LIRR station, a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesperson confirmed to Patch. The person's identity has not been released.
It is not immediately clear why the individual was on the tracks. But the MTA spokesperson said an investigation has been launched.

Train service was briefly disrupted on the Main Line due to the collision. It was restored around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to an LIRR tweet.
