Free Breast Cancer Screenings At Yonkers Public Library On Saturday
Pre-registration is required for the screenings that will take place on eight Saturdays from now until September.
YONKERS, NY— A new public health initiative to increase breast cancer screenings in the Yonkers community, could save your life or the life of someone you love.
The Rotary Club of the Hudson Valley and Montefiore Einstein Cancer Center are collaborating to provide screenings with a newly FDA-approved device, iBreastExam, which is non-invasive, portable and radiation-free. This breast exam is quick and painless, and helps discover previously undetected breast lumps and lesions.
Approximately 1 out of every 8 women in the U.S. is diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite screenings being the best way to identify and treat cancers at their most curable stage, screening rates across the region and nation have plummeted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thus leading to a higher risk of late-stage cancers.
