Mount Vernon HS Nursing Students Go TikTok Viral With Blood Drive Plea
Sometimes, a fit of the giggles can do more to bring attention to a serious school announcement than anyone expected.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Did you ever have that friend who could make you laugh with just a look, sometimes at the most inopportune times? Two Mount Vernon teens who had a fit of giggles while trying to address their school can relate and the experience is making them world famous.
The senior nursing students at Mount Vernon High School, Margelis Valdez and Adreana Howlett, went viral with a video of them making a school-wide announcement for a school blood drive earlier this month.
The TikTok with the caption "pov: they made you and that one friend who can't take anything serious do the school announcement," shows the pair break out laughing as they tried to read their script. For a moment, it looks like they might regain their composure and finish the job, but a teacher finally has to finish this announcement. The TikTok already has well over 19 million views, 3.2 million likes and 31,700 comments on Margelis's account alone. The short video has even been posted by movie star Pedro Pascal on his Instagram story.

While their uncontrollable laughter may have nearly botched a chance to let fellow students know about the blood drive, the two partners in mirth did manage to bring a little extra attention to the event and were able to help out in other ways as well.
"Students in the nursing program also assisted the blood drive by greeting donors and helping them recover with juice and snacks," the school district said. "Mount Vernon High School will hold another blood drive this spring, so let's see if Margelis and Adreana can hold it together and get redemption during their next announcement."

On a more serious note, the New York Blood Center (NYBC) joined blood centers across the country in an emergency plea for blood donors following a holiday season of low donor turnout and the recent inclement winter weather. So, if the TikTok viral announcement "outtake" inspired you, now would be a good time to donate.
