10 Foot Waves Lash NYC Coast As Hurricane Florence Hits Carolinas
Though the brunt of the storm will miss NYC, some rain is expected.

NEW YORK, NY – Hurricane Florence is sending 10 foot waves crashing onto the shore around New York City as it churns up the ocean from hundreds of miles away.
Florence had weakened to a category 1 storm as it hit the coast of the Carolinas early Friday, but is battering the area with torrential rain and furious winds.
Though New York City dodged the brunt of the storm, it is still expected to drop up to two inches of rain as its remnants pass through the region Tuesday into Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

On Friday, breaking waves of 7-10 feet will result in widespread erosion at Atlantic-facing beaches in Queens and Brooklyn and flooding with minor damage is possible to the base of dune structures, the NWS said.

Unfortunately no reason to believe the catastrophic flooding forecasts won't pan out. Tonight's WRF echoes the official forecast...15-40" of rain for the largest rain event in North Carolina recorded history. #Florence pic.twitter.com/1UxmzHBFG6

But before the remnants of Florence arrive, New York City is expected to get a reprieve from recent rain this weekend as the sun is forecast to return.
