14-Year-Old Charged After Fatal Shooting Near NYC School
Charges against the boy are pending as of Tuesday afternoon.

NEW YORK CITY — A 14-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with second degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a teen girl near a New York City school Monday evening, according to police.
The boy was apprehended by police on Monday. He has also been charged with attempted murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Evette Jeffrey, 16, was found with a gunshot wound to the head around 5:05 p.m. near the Bronx Career and College Preparatory High School on Home Street and Tinton Avenue, Patch previously reported.

Officials have said she was not the intended target of the shooting, and she had been riding her scooter near the school when she was shot.
Police said two groups of teens were arguing near the school when a brawl broke out. A gun was allegedly used by one of the teens involved in the fight, who fired into the crowd.

Jeffrey was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals, where she was later pronounced dead.

An investigation remains ongoing, police said.
