NEW YORK CITY — Two retired FDNY chiefs were arrested Monday morning following an alleged corruption probe, where they accepted around $190,000 in bribes to speed up safety inspections.

Retired chiefs Brian Cordasco and Anthony Saccavino have been charged with bribery, corruption and false statements offenses,according to federal prosecutors.

The two chiefs, with the FDNY Bureau of Fire Prevention, "repeatedly abused their positions of trust as high-ranking officials in the New York City Fire Department,"according to an indictment obtained by ABC News.

In their positions, they would regulate the installation of fire safety and suppression systems in commercial and residential buildings, ABC News reported.

They would accept bribes payments in exchange for preferential treatment to certain individuals and companies, according to the report.

The two retired chiefs had their homes raided by the FBI and city investigators back in February. They allegedly tried to lie to federal authorities in an attempt to cover up their scheme, according to a New York Post report.

The FDNY’s Brooklyn headquarters was also searched, according to the report.
