NEW YORK CITY, NY — Gunfire erupted near the historic Stonewall Inn Sunday night as NYC Pride celebrations wound down, leaving two teenagers shot, police say.

A 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old girl were both shot near Sheridan Square in Greenwich Village just after 10 p.m., close to the Stonewall Inn. Police say it is unclear whether the incident was hate crime–related.

Both victims were hospitalized, with the 16-year-old in critical condition and the 17-year-old in stable condition, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.

"Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down," New York Mayor Eric Adams said on social media. "During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating."

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning, and the investigation remains ongoing.

"The NYPD will work quickly and tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice," Adams added.
