2 Young Boys Critically Injured In NYC Apartment Fire, Police Say

The boys, ages 1 and 2, remained hospitalized after the late Wednesday fire that also left two 8-year-old girls and a woman, 28, injured.

NEW YORK CITY — Two young boys were critically injured in a Washington Heights apartment fire that left three others hurt, police said.

The boys, ages 1 and 2, were rushed to local hospitals as FDNY firefighters grappled with the late Thursday blaze inside 206 Audubon Ave., a six-story apartment building near West 175th Street, officials said.

The fire sparked about 10:55 p.m. in a fifth-floor apartment, FDNY officials said.

Firefighters rushed inside to find injured boys, as well as two 8-year-old girls and a woman, 28, who all had suffered smoke inhalation, an NYPD spokesperson told Patch.

The girls and the woman were listed in stable condition, while the boys' injuries were considered critical, police said.

About 60 firefighters and emergency personnel responded to the blaze, which was under control by 11:55 p.m., FDNY officials said.

The fire's cause remains under investigation, authorities said.
