2019 Tony Award Nominations: 'Hadestown' Leads Pack With 14

NEW YORK — The mythical musical "Hadestown" will go into the 2019 Tony Awards with 14 nominations, more than any other Broadway production this year. The show based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice got nods for 14 awards on Tuesday, including Best Musical and Best Original Score.

Not far behind was "Ain't Too Proud," a jukebox musical featuring tunes from The Temptations, with 12 nominations in all.

The best-performing play was "The Ferryman," playwright Jez Butterworth's tale of The Troubles in Northern Ireland in the early 1980s. The show earned nine nominations.

The acting categories honored some stars of the screen who have been featured on Broadway stages, including Bryan Cranston for "Network," Adam Driver for "Burn This" and Annette Benning for "Arthur Miller's All My Sons."

The Tony Awards will be handed out at Radio City Music Hall on June 9 at the 73rd annual ceremony hosted by late-night personality James Corden.
