6 Hurt As Fire Rips Through Bronx Apartment Building: FDNY

THE BRONX, NY — A seven-alarm fire injured six people as it ripped through a Bronx apartment building early Monday morning, the FDNY said. Firefighters spent more than three hours battling the blaze that broke out shortly before 5:30 a.m. in mixed-use building at the corner of McClellan Street and Sherman Avenue, the Fire Department said.

Firefighters mounted the roof as they sought to quell the flames, which spread throughout the six-story building, according to the FDNY and video from the scene.

Five firefighters and one civilian were hurt before the fire was brought under control just after 8:30 a.m., a Fire Department spokesperson said. Images from the scene show smoke spilling out of the building, which has businesses on the ground floor and apartments above.

What sparked the blaze and where in the building it started are uncertain, the spokesperson said.
