Here are the top five stories in New York City today:
- Thirty-eight people were injured on Saturday during a fire on the 20th-story of a high-rise apartment building in Midtown which was started when a lithium-ion battery in an electric bicycle ignited a massive blaze, according to the fire department. (New York City Patch)
- Several hundred New York City buildings were falsely issued F grades for energy efficiency due to a Con Edison data error, according to the Department of Buildings. Overall more than a thousand–or 9.8 percent–of all buildings that posted new grades this months had received an F, but it's unclear exactly how many were affected by the 'snafu.' (The City)
- At the Crown Heights school with the greatest drop in math testing scores in New York City since 2019, 81 percent of students have experienced poverty and classrooms are chronically overcrowded. Parents and students at the school point to remote learning during the pandemic as one of the reasons for its drop. (Gothamist)
- A bomb threat lead an East Harlem voting location to temporarily be evacuated on Sunday morning, city officials said. Yesterday was the last day of early voting ahead of Tuesday's general election. (Gothamist)
- Kenyan runners Sharon Lokedi and Evan Chebet won the women's and men's races respectively in the 51st New York City marathon this weekend, both with finishing times a little over two hours. Chebet also won Boston's marathon earlier this year, and both runners finished NYC's race faster than last year's winner. (AMNY)
