40K More NYC Students Opt For Remote Learning: New Data
Roughly 305,000 students will start school in September entirely at home, up from 264,000 a week ago, according to school officials.
NEW YORK CITY — About 40,000 more New York City students won't join their peers in classrooms when schools reopen this fall, according to new remote learning tallies.
Roughly 305,000 students opted for a full remote learning plan this year, city Department of Education data released Monday shows.
Last week, the city listed 264,000 students as slotted for entirely at-home schedules.

The days between the tallies were marked by growing concerns by principals, teachers and parents over New York City's back to classrooms push amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Parents apparently also used that week to fill out a form to enroll their children into remote learning. They can sign up anytime, and there will be chances later in the school year to go into a blended learning model, officials said.

The data released Monday shows of those students who opted for fully remote, 37 percent were Hispanic, followed by 28 percent Asian students, 20 percent Black students and 12 percent white students.
